It’s spring. Outside my front door there is a riot of color going on.

I want to bring some of that happy color inside my home in a big way.

By way of a turquoise couch.

It’s almost a neutral since it is so pretty with pink…

… and looks fabulous with mustard yellow and crimson red.

It also can be perfectly elegant with purple.

I like it paired with chartreuse the best. Of course I did grow up watching the Brady Bunch.

But a romantic taupe and cream palette appeals to me too.

So today I am taking charge with my washing machine and RIT dye.

I’m hoping I’ll need a disco ball so I can celebrate.

Tell me about your crazy home décor plans.
Laura

Ohhhhhhhh I am LOVING the colors in this post!!! I would LOVE to do everything in PINK ... but the two men in the house disagree! LOL!! Thank goodness I have Brookie :)
Now see, THIS is the difference between the way a designer thinks and the way a regular person thinks. I would never in a million years have put some of those colors together, yet every picture is really gorgeous!
I'm just not adventurous anymore. I don't have an eye, and I'm still paying the price for some unfortunate upholstery choices from the nineties... which replaced some unfortunate ones from the 80s.
Sigh.
Love your post today. We are almost done our bath renovations. Our woodwork throughout is a pale ivory and I am going for a soft taupe for the bath walls. My inspiration was some vintage turquoise cabinet knobs that were given to me. I have enough for all the cabinets and even a row attached to a board which will be going along the wall by the window to hang towels and robes on. DH isn't sure but I have a vision! lol
Your lovely photos today just help reassure me I am on the right track. Thank you! :)
Well as you know I like turquoise too, only mine is a soft aqua. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Hugs, Marty
you're brave, can't wait to see how it turns out!!
Hi Laura,
I don't really have any crazy decor plans, lol, and I must confess, I'm not big on color - either wearing or decorating with. I'm a neutral/autumn color type of gal myself.
And I had to laugh, we have no riot of color going on outside of our window yet. It's still another few weeks at least for that here in east-central Illinois, where we do have melting dirty snow and mud. That's our early spring. Other than the earliest spring crocuses, no flowers until at least next month.
Hope you enjoy a beautiful weekend. Hey, we are supposed to hit 60 degrees this weekend here.... I'll believe it when I "feel" it though.
Love, Linda
My sister and I were just reminiscing about the room we shared growing up. Definitely Brady Bunch....our walls had striped wallpaper in lime green, lemon yellow, orange and white. We had these huge, hideous, orange bulbous glass globe lamps with black wrought iron fixtures (which today would probably bring a cool grand in the retro market) and our beds were daybeds that stuck out of a corner table that was painted lime green. We had the requisite hot pink, yellow, orange and white plastic "flower power" decals all over our closet doors. Yes, we were totally hip in our room decor......I couldn't wait to move out of that room....LOL
Love ya'
Meri
You and your Rit dye...I am sure it will be pretty...although, I loved the softness of your LR. Can't wait to see!!
Une belle promenade colorée chez vous!...
Je vous souhaite une journée de la femme joyeuse et pétillante, gros bisous.
Oh man! I would love a turquoise couch! It really goes with soooo many colors. That always surprises me! :)
Love those colours! Bring on spring. Looking forward to seeing what the result of your day in the dye vats is.
My husband is the fixer-upper around here - he once worked as a carpenter and makes fine furniture on the side, for his family. There hasn't been much time for any of that lately and I'm debating taking a course on how to replace baseboard and doing it myself. Also putting up beadboard in the bathroom. I don't like loud noises so using the saw would be a challenge. But ear muffs would help. Do I dare do this? We'll see.
I don't think my decor plans are crazy. (Since the words decor and plan don't occur in the same description of my random-accumulation, haphazard "style".) At times, I have a lonely idea, and it's probably a blessing that I don't give it a try.
I have made at least one wall-painting choice I should not have, and I live with it, in fear of correcting it and making it worse! Are you feeling sorry for me and my limited vision yet?
I hope all goes well. Sounds like a wonderful plan. One reminder, don't forget the salt to your dye to make sure it sets good. My SIL dyed her living room carpet but forgot the salt and the dye bled on everyone's socks horribly. LOL. Live and learn, right?

Today's featured photo is a lovely example of the colors our Creator pairs with turquoise.
I just found your blog because I was looking for pictures of Irish china, dishwear, etc for my page on Facebook.
The colors are so bright!! And to know you have such color outside your door as well as inside! We woke up to 5" of snow this morning. :(
I have posted the link to your blog on my FB page (My Own Little Corner of the World).
Can't wait to see how gorgeous it turns out.
I think these shots are all so beautiful, but some of the colours I would never have thought to put together.
I am just trying to lighten things up at the moment,so lots of off white.x
Laura these velvet sofas in the various shades of turquoise are gorgeous! Are you dying slipcovers?
xoxo

That turquoise color is amazing! I am thinking I need more of that in my home. Tomorrow I am redoing one of my living room walls. It needs updating. Hubby made a new sign which will be featured alongside a lovely photo my daughter took. :) Have a great weekend! Kit
