Every morning I arise before dawn and rustle around in my kitchen to prepare a cup of hot tea.

Ever since I created a wall of plates and used all of my teacup saucers I have been unable to stack the cups like this:

So the cups have become like a leaning tower of teasa.

During one of my early morning quests my sleep induced hands were not quick enough to capture one of Grandma Mary’s teacups when it jumped to its death via the means of my ceramic tiled floor.

So began my search for teacup storage. I found racks similar to this, but thought “Uh, no thanks.”

I loved this idea but my home/kitchen is an open floor plan. One wall has cabinets and the other has windows so that means I have zero wall space in my kitchen.

So this wouldn’t work either.

Cruising around Pinterest I found the following teacup inspiration.

But none of the darling offerings really solved my problem.
I then spotted and loved Jennifer Rizzo’s French bottle rack of teacups but when trying to locate a rack of my own the budget cried foul. Plus I really didn’t have the counter space.
Then I spied this heart stopping bit of bliss on the Anthro site. But at $1,800.00 this chandelier made the antique French bottle rack seem like a bargain. So I put the image in my DIY file knowing full well that it might take me awhile to collect the elements to build it.

Last week I was cruising the aisles of Goodwill when I came upon a vintage white wire rack. I am well familiar with such space saving delights, available at any Wal Mart or Target, but this one was different. It had a carousel in the center for ….yes, heavens parting… birds singing… teacups.
Have you ever seen such a piece of wire storage? I haven’t and I greedily want more.
Because lurking behind this teapot are more teacups.
But until I get the Anthro teacup holder built perhaps this will suffice:

How do you store your cups and mugs?

Ohhhhhh I love what you found to hang the cups!! That is WONDERFUL!
I have a Welsh cupboard, so I have used cup hooks on it and some are just sitting on the ledges in front of plates. I love this post...lots of great ideas. The bottle drying racks are so fantastic, but they are pretty pricey around here, too.

LOVE your GW find. That's just perfect. I love that it turns. Mine are either staged around the house in various places or on hooks in the cabinet or displayed in one of my china cabinets. I really love those wall units that you showed. My mind is racing with those.
Laura some beautiful options....mine are simply sitting on the Cupboard shelves! Taking way too much space

Laura,
It seems our internet is back to 'normal'! I adore all your beautiful dainty tea cups and sorry to read one was lost. What a way to start a day. I will keep my eyes open for more of your wire solutions. My antique teacups are stacked in my antique china chest. My coffee mugs are stacked in the kitchen cabinet and my Anthro mugs are stored on a wall cubby. (Thomas keeps asking why I need so many cups.) Come to think of it, I also have some spode tea cups stacked on my sideboard and another 'leaning tower of teaza' (you are too funny!) in the summer kitchen. Hmmm, could it be Thomas is right?

Oh my!
Who would think that your favored cups would lead to so much and great findings?!?!
I loved all the ideas - first, last and all in between.
I would specially favor the wall displays but I understand that from collection to collection one would run out of free walls ahahahahahah.
Take Care and have a lovely Weekend!

P.S. I'm doing a Laura and diving in a former-music-room and turn it into my lovely office in the guest room... wish me luck, will you?
Love to see new ways to display teacups; I'm a fan of the simple wire rack too as you know!
Unfortunately most of my tea cups are in boxes in storage. I really must get brave and get rid of them. I thought about having several tea parties and giving everyone a cup and saucer as a memento. I'm waiting for Spring to do that. Then I'll think about the rest - maybe a consignment shop.
Laura what a great find for your gorgeous teacups!!! Your cupboard looks so pretty with all your dishes too! Were you able to save the broken cup or do you have other plans for it now that it is in pieces. I have a huge box full off pretty dishes that I have broken waiting to do something amazing with them.....we'll see how long that takes! So far it has been at least 7 years for the box to just accumulate dishes but never get used for anything.

Cup hooks and mugs stored under the hanging tea cups. China on wire shelves in sideboard. Red glass on display hutch. Nothing exciting at all. I so love the look of open shelves and my heart would want to store them where I could see them. But reality says I can't keep up with the dust around here. Sigh.
I've longingly eyed Jen's tea cup holder for a while now myself! My truly delicate ones are in the dining room china cabinet. Everyday mugs are in the kitchen cabinet. Ho-hum, I know. I might just have to make that silver tea cup holder! It's fabulous!
I'm sorry to see the broken teacup! I have so few handed down items that those ones are in my china cabinet. My everyday teacups are stacked sort of like your leaning tower of teaza, though only 2 high each and in the coffee & tea cabinet. One of the things I planned for when we did our kitchen remodel was having enough cabinet storage for all of my dishes.
Love the solutions you've found! Hopefully you'll be able to find all the components you need to DIY yourself the great big one.
At the moment on the open shelves. Love your idea though! What true eye candy.

Glad you found a remedy! I am in love with that tea inspired lamp in one of your photos. I am keeping that pic for a future project. :) Kit
That was an awesome find... and no, I have never seen one like that... very cool! :)

It's always so sad to see a pretty dish laying in pieces. I have done it enough times myself to know the feeling. But you have found a great way to add more storage to your cabinet. Your shelves are also adjustable. Since teacups aren't very tall, you could always buy a piece of prefinished shelving at the DIY store and some of the little plastic clips then put in an extra shelf just high enough for the cups. I have one at the top of one of my cabinets just for extra juice glasses and china mugs.
Now be sure and enjoy your cuppa! Sounds like a nice idea. :)
I store mine precariously stacked LOL
lucky you! I wonder if you can convert tie holders into something like this?
