I am so happy to have been included in the Make It Merry holiday idea series. I offered to provide ideas on gift wrapping as I am always so inspired by the lovely ideas offered in blogland. Further down I will show you how I am wrapping gifts this Christmas, but first I thought I would share some fun favorites. Funkytime has provided a free download for pretty and perfect holiday party favors.
While Country Living used paper straws to create the star decoration, I am thinking that a few kids in my family might like a similar design made from Pixy Stix candy.

I love this pretty package complete with a cupcake liner rosette from Sweet Paul. (Make sure you also check out his holiday e zine.)

For bottles of wine and apple cider I adore the idea of creating Yule logs made from mailing tubes. They are very similar to the candy containers I made HERE. The Yule logs are from Martha of course.

Don’t be afraid to use old maps, sheet music and vintage wall paper as giftwrap.
This year I’ve tried out the Japanese tradition of furoshiki (fabric wrapping cloths) on the Fashionista~ complete with a vintage broach.

Smaller gifts such as lovely scented powder can be wrapped up in vintage handkerchiefs.
Additional directions can be found here.
Pretty poinsettia’s get fancy with a bit of old school tulle and sheer red ribbon.
You can use the inner foil covering to create a pattern. I cut the tulle a bit bigger so I could fluff and tuck the excess fabric up under the leaves.
Do you need a snazzy way to present a gift card? Remember when I made the fabric envelopes over the summer? I just updated my design in fabric selections that featured holiday colors.
When giving gifts I truly believe that the gift should first be a delight to the eyes. I mail my packages out early, so there is a good chance that the receiver might be looking at their present for a few weeks. I try to make the present pretty, as well as match their tastes. Yes, I wrap my gifts with the giver in mind. I ask myself, “What do they love? What would look lovely tucked under the tree in their home?”
For the Francophile.
A gift for the gardener who loves roses.
It’s actually really easy. Just buy wrapping paper in plain white, gold or silver. It goes with any colored ribbon. I also begin hoarding paper grocery sacks around October. It’s better for the environment and provides you with free gift wrap that you (as well as children) can adorn with stamps, buttons, stickers, ribbon, etc. to suit the recipient. Cute doesn’t have to cost a lot

Of course I always like to add a pièce de résistance. I love, love, LOVE to embellish presents. It can be as simple as collecting bits of nature’s bounty to add to a present. (Use hot glue to attach pinecones and greenery.)

Here’s a sneak peek at this years handmade ornament that is gracing the tops of several of my packages. The tutorial will be on Wednesday.
Any of my visiting neighbors will receive a bottle of sparkling wine that I nestled into a handmade Christmas stocking. You can find similar stockings in my Etsy shop. They are on sale to celebrate Make It Merry.
May your days be merry and bright,
Laura

Fantastic. Of course my favorite is the red check top with the gorgeous vintage brooch (that is a gift all by itself!). I used brown craft paper (like trash bags) for about 10 years. Love the simplicity and look of it. Now I usually have a theme (red/white or black/white etc.) This year I haven't even bought a present yet and I'm usually done by Thanksgiving. Oh dear.
What lovely ideas! That glittered diorama ornament topper is just gorgeous! Can't wait for the tutorial.
Perfect packaging! I love the shirt and broach, I may be borrowing this idea from you. Enjoy your day!
Pretty packages, Laura! I've already decided that I'm going the white and craft paper route once I use up all the wrapping paper I do have. I think it will make for a much nicer background to add the embellishments. Plus, I won't have 10 rolls of assorted Christmas wrap and 10 rolls of regular wrapping paper floating around!
Laura so many lovely, creative wrap ideas. I adore the handmade ornament with your stockings!! Truly beautiful!

I am in love with that sweet little woodland deer! That could not be any more adorable Laura :) So many wonderful ideas and I WISH that I had thought to start stashing away brown paper bags--what have I been thinking?? I keep putting them into the recycle bin. Perfect way to reuse them!! You are genius - thank you for the tips and ideas today and thank you for helping me to make my season merry! xo, diane

Wow, these are some beautiful ideas! My four boys don't appreciate pretty packages as much as I do, but the 10yo just told me he wouldn't mind the pixie stick one! LOL!
