Friday night I received a call that no one likes to get. My brother Richard was in I.C.U. and scheduled for open heart surgery first thing Saturday morning.
My brother is quiet in a crowd, but will talk for hours if you get him one on one. He is a deep thinker and true renaissance man. (I think he sews better than me.) We call him MacGyver for his clever solutions to problems.
I won’t go into great details, but will only say that he is a true rock in our families foundation.
He often has a mischievous twinkle in his eye. When being prepped for surgery he thought he might have to shave his beard. This was cause for concern as it takes him months to grow it and of course Christmas is right around the corner. He was happy when the nurses agreed that he could braid it. (smile)

Richard is on the right.
My brother is a bachelor. A lucky bachelor. He has come through the surgery and has a gaggle of siblings wanting to wait hand and foot on him.
I can’t help but think of the many who might have broken hearts, broken arms or even broken hips and are alone. My friend Karena had surgery this past week. Do you know Karena? She is well loved by many. It breaks my heart that she will be recovering in a rehab facility because she can’t be home. By herself.
It doesn’t matter that I’ve never met her in person. She is my friend. So I worry. That is what the blogging community is all about.

I would love for you to go visit her blog HERE and leave her an encouraging comment. If you would rather send a card you can contact me (my email can be found under my profile) and I will make sure she gets it.
If you have a prayer request and feel alone I am here for you.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 it says
“So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing.”
Because the most sure fire way to heal quickly is easy.

Love is all you need.
Laura

Laura, I'm so glad that he came through his surgery well and will be thinking of all of you in his rehab process. He sounds like a great guy!
And I will pop over and leave a note for Karena. I had NO idea.

I'll be thinking of you and Richard. I'm glad comments are on today because it seems that the days that I catch up on your blog, comments are off.
I will also visit Karena.
Your brother is lucky to have his "gaggle of siblings" for sure...

Good luck to your brother. It's nice to have so many family members to take care of you.
You brother is indeed lucky. I hope he continues to heal with the help of his gaggle of siblings!

I am so glad your brother is doing well, and grateful he has you to be there for him.
I have no children, and as a nurse I worry about being alone and old as I see a few people. Hopefully my husband and I will stay healthy!
Bless all of your hearts!

I am happy for you that the scare is over. It was wonderful last summer that you and your siblings could have that time together, even though it was work. I hope Richard heals quickly.
Did you enjoy your extra hour of sleep this morning? I did!
Prayers, love & hugs for you and yours through this rough time.
I am glad your brother is okay, Laura. I have a brother named Richard, too. He is also a quiet man. We are 18 months apart and don't see each other much, but he is the same. Once you get talking, he is a great conversationalist. I see a lot of him in my son's personality. I do remember Karena mentioning her surgery. I am heading over to her blog right now. I hope she will be able to read a little bit in between therapy.
Thanks for sharing about Karena, I popped over to her blog for a quick visit. Thanks also for sharing about Richard. I'll be praying for a speedy and complete recovery for him. The closeness of your siblings is inspirational.
Prayers all around. And hugs!
I'm am praying for your brother's speedy recovery! I know how much pain is felt when a loved one is lost. I lost my 13 year old daughter on June 24, 2010 and I moun every day for her. I have a wonderful support group for Parents Who Have Lost Children at Hospice but would also appreciate your prayers.
I'm so glad to hear your brother came through the surgery. Will say a prayer for him and your family for a quick recovery. I'm off to visit Karena.
Dear Laura,
What a lovely post. I'm so happy that your brother is on the road to recovery. And he is handsome too. How did he escape cupids bow?
And yes, it's sad and hard to be one. It's also a lonely number. When my brother was told there was nothing they could do for him, we moved him our guest room with no not being an option. He was told a year so he was not ready to move. We didnt listen and 84 days later we buried him. I'm glad he spent those days here in our care. My heart breaks for those alone. And when I was recovering even with a husband, I moved in with my sister. That's what families do!
Hope your brother continues to improve. He has too, he has a lot of family pulling for him..Take care..
Ma chère je souhaite à votre frère un prompt rétablissement... Il aura besoin de vous mais il a beaucoup de chance d'être entouré des siens...
Un très gros bisous à vous.
thinking about you and your family...God bless,

Bless your generous heart, Miss Laura. I'll be holding you and those you love close in my prayers.

Happy to hear your dear brother is out of surgery...Take care..
Being a heart patient and having gone through several heart related surgeries I can understand what your brother has gone through.. but know one thing, your brother is alive in the point of time where we have such high-tec gadgets and surgeries and he is one lucky guy!
Sending good vibes for his complete recovery!
